Inspecting the part hierarchy
When a model has real structure (more than one mesh), a Parts panel appears in the top-right corner showing the model’s assembly tree: groups and parts, nested the way the CAD file was authored. Conversion noise is filtered out, and each part row shows its triangle count. Single-mesh models get no panel. This is the place to validate a STEP upload: a CAD assembly’s sub-components should survive conversion as named parts rather than a single blob, and the tree is where you check that.- Click a row to select the part. It’s outlined in the viewport, and a translucent ghost shows through occluding geometry, so a part behind a panel still reveals where it sits, the way CAD tools show selections through walls. Clicking a part in the viewport selects it in the tree too, expanding and scrolling to its row.
- Selection details: the panel footer shows the selected part’s name, triangle count, and bounding box, measured in the model’s own units, before any display normalization. Useful for checking that a part is really the size the drawing says.
- Hover a row for two actions: the eye hides or shows the part and everything under it, and the isolate icon shows only that part’s subtree, hiding the rest of the model. Show all in the header restores everything.
